What makes our cherries so good?
- Mix Orange's very cool, dry Summer climate with our extremely fertile volcanic soil and you have the ingredients for growing the biggest, tastiest cherries available.
- We take great care to ensure that every cherry is kept icy-cold from the moment they are picked until they reach your mouth - unlike supermarkets who vary the temperature several times before the fruit reaches the consumer.
- All our fruit is washed, sorted to perfection, and quality tested before being sealed in long-life packages so you can be sure your cherries are clean, chemical free and flawless.
Our story
In the 1950’s, a young, spirited Ken Perry Senior and his wife, Aileen, purchased a small property 10kms outside the township of Orange, Central Western NSW.
With rich allluvial soil, this prime land was planted with its first apple trees and Sunnycrest Orchard was born.
To satisfy the expectations of the public and to win their tastebuds' approval, the Perrys knew they had to consistently produce the best quality and tastiest fruit available. Years of hard work, constant trialling of new cultivation techniques and the help of their children eventually proved to be what was needed for success in the fruit industry.
After 20 years, Ken Perry Junior, his wife Anne and his brother Stephen maintained this tradition to a second generation.
The orchard was expanded in the 1980’s. As more fruit trees were planted, further trials run, and their own sons grew old enough to help on the farm. Utilising the latest technology, experimental growing techniques and the invention of new processes, the new generation achieved success when Ken Jnr. gained recognition for his excellence in fruit cultivation by being named Farmer of the Year in 1988 for his innovative apple growing techniques.
During the past decade, cherries have been introduced to the orchard and have been successfully marketed throughout Australia and the world. Increased co-operation with other orchardists around the world has allowed us to adopt the latest cultivation techniques first hand and has assisted us in discovering new ways of achieving our dream - providing the finest fruit in Australia.
